Regarding SIUIS:2 in 2007

"What does SIUIS mean to me? Opportunity

Despite attending multiple campus job fairs during the fall of 2007, I still had no idea what career path I was going to choose after completing my last year at SIU. I knew it was crunch time to find a job. While attending class at the engineering building at SIU, I passed by a poster that announced a SIU:IS engineering conference. I decided to give a shot since the general job fair didn’t provide me with enough specific jobs; I am quite glad that I did.

At the conference, I was able to meet with many technology-specific companies not previously seen at SIU. One company in particular gained my attention, Cisco Systems. I met with Lanita Robinson, a Cisco Systems Engineer, to discuss possible positions within Cisco. My interest increased when I attended Lanita’s presentation on Cisco’s new Telepresence product.

As a result from my connection with Lanita and my application to Cisco, I landed a job right out of college with the Cisco NOW Van Team. I currently tour the North Central United States, demonstrating Cisco’s newest products to small and medium sized business customers. This has been a phenomenal source of experience and I could be not more appreciative of Anil Mehta for arranging the conference and Cisco’s appearance.
 
I suggest any engineering student, whether it is your first or last year, to attend the conference. Although a strong application is important, nothing can beat social networking as a tool to secure your future."
